About this project

After creating a series of works under the name “Sporewear”, we felt inspired to go beyond the gallery format and document these speculative sculptural artifacts by styling them in a way that adds to the narrative that we had been imagining.

We reached out to our dear friend Sahra Jajarmikhayat who is a phenomenal photographer and we worked with her to dial in the concept for the shoot.

Having just led a mycelium biofabrication workshop at TwoTwo in Oakland (shoutout CC and Dario), we were looking forward to showcasing their impeccable style and curation, by providing us with the garments/wardrobe for the shoot.

Concept

The editorial explores the intersection of natural systems and urban infrastructure by thinking about how spores travel freely through the air around us. Spores, pollen, and seeds will always be able to find their ways into even the most sterile of spaces. That being said, it is becoming increasingly important for us humans to become vectors of biodiversity. As we move through bridges, airports, and ferries, across borders and ecosystems, can our movements play more of an active role in biological dispersal for ecosystem protection and resilience?

We present these ideas as a provocation. As we navigate increasingly sterile built environments of glass, concrete, and synthetic materials, can we become nature’s agents of quiet infiltration through acts of soft resistance?
